Blastocystis hominis - close up of a granular form (similar to a vacuolar form with a central vacuole with 1 - 4 nuclei and 5 - 20 microns wide but with granules) EM by Deb Stenzel. This is the form found in culture or passed from the colon. Note granules showing a large accumulation of lipid and myelin - like granules.
